"Strawberry Shortcake" greets RAGBRAI riders

Taygan Shilhanek put her dramatic skills to use, getting into character as the iconic “Strawberry Shortcake” to greet RAGBRAI riders in Strawberry Point.

The 15-year-old Starmont High School student handed out strawberry hard candies below the well-known strawberry that sits above the town’s city hall.

Hearing riders’ stories and posing for photos on the ride’s final day made bearing the heat in the costume worth it.

“It’s hot, but I have enjoyed it,” she said.
