THE SIGHTS
Here’s a brief selection of the things you’ll encounter Wednesday:
What we saw on the pre-ride in June | Photos
MORMON TRAIL: Garden Grove, Wednesday’s first pass-through town, has a fascinating history as the site of the first Mormon settlement in Iowa. Timothy Meinch has more here.
HAUNTING: If the Villisca Axe Murder House wasn’t scary enough for you, visit the Stearns Mansion in Garden Grove, subject of a paranormal show. This building in the oldest Iowa settlement is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
RIDE A RODEO BULL IN HUMESTON: Take a look.
Des Moines Register: A small town will always welcome you home
O BETHLEHEM: If you’re looking for a spot to get married along RAGBRAI this year, save the “I Dos” for the Bethlehem Chapel.
KARRAS LOOP: It’s that time again. According to RAGBRAI organizers, the split-off is relatively late in the ride this year, so you’ll have some extra time to decide if you want to go for the optional 32.3-mile loop. If you do, you’ll be able to pick up your Karras Loop Patch from RAGBRAI co-founder John Karras himself at Honey Creek Resort. Some quick details on that: Take the turn off of J18 to get into the resort. Follow the access road all the way to the main building of the resort. Riders will find all activities on the lake side of the main building. There will be a small stage with entertainment, and several food vendors on the grass behind the resort. The restaurant will be open to serve riders as well. That’s also where riders will pick up their loop patch.
ENTERTAINMENT IN CENTERVILLE: Hairball is the top draw, at 9:30 p.m. on the main stage. Read more here
TOP NEWS AND MOMENTS FROM TUESDAY:
HE’S DONE IT ALL: Every RAGBRAI, that is.
COLD: How about that ice water plunge?
DEATH, INJURIES: Update on criminal investigations, and how to help the rider who was critically injured this week
