Here’s what you need to know about Day 5 of RAGBRAI XLVIII, when we ride from Waterloo to Anamosa!
First things first: the route. It’s going to be a little cooler Thursday but be sure to still stay on top of drinking water and electrolytes, you’ll probably be a little behind from the mega hot day Wednesday:
Today’s ride is 83.7 miles with approximately 2,187 feet of climb. Those who ride the Karras Loop will tackle 110.8 miles and 3,894 feet of climb. Yes that’s an additional 1,700 feet of climb for the loopers! On our way from Waterloo to Anamosa, we visited Evansdale, Elk Run Heights, Raymond (first visit), Jesup (first visit), Shady Grove, Rowley, Walker, Center Point, Alice, and Central City. Stop by the People for Bikes booth downtown in every overnight town for route cards with more accurate between-town mileages.
Thursday on RAGBRAI XLVIII is Karras Loop Day and RAGBRAI Jersey Day!
Karras Loop Day
Turn your average RAGBRAI day into a bigger day with an optional 27.3 mile loop. Crew members will be on the route passing out loop patches to registered riders and if we’re lucky, John Karras will be there to cheer you along. Sadly, Karras wasn’t on the loop during the route inspection. See you in July, John!
RAGBRAI Jersey Day
Celebrate all that is RAGBRAI by wearing your 2021 RAGBRAI Jersey featuring the “On the Road Again” XLVIII logo.

Band Member Doug Siefker says, “Buffalo Creek is looking forward to this great opportunity to perform for RAGBRAI with hits from the 80’s and 90’s including some originals as well”.
Anamosa’s popular Blue 60 Band will be starting about 5:45 PM and Steve Wendel lead vocalist has promised to not disappoint but will include the crowd participation they are known for.
The Boyscout Hippies will end the night beginning at 9:00 PM having everyone entertained up till 11:30 PM with their variety of Country, Rock, and everything in between! For the last 4 years Ron LaFleur and the Boy scout Hippies have been striving to create a great musical experience for the masses. They are extremely excited to be bringing everything they got to our Anamosa hometown crowd and RAGBRAI.
The local stage taking place on North Ford Street will have entertainment starting at 3:30 PM with some of the best talent in the Anamosa area including a dance company and an always popular Open Mic. They encourage both locals and RAGBRAI riders to participate. From 7:30-11:30 PM Double D Acoustic will play classic rock from the 80’s-2000’s.
