Woman inspired to ride with father

Crystal Davis was inspired to go on RAGBRAI by the death of a man she didn’t even know.
She was in her first bike race last October, toward the back, when she saw a man lying in the road. A moment later a younger man she had been talking to earlier during the race rolled up.
The man in the street was his father. He was having a heart attack and he didn’t make it.
Davis, 33, found the man’s obituary, which mentioned riding RAGBRAI with his son.
“I was inspired to do it with my dad in his honor,” she said, standing by her father.
They plan to take a photo and send it to the man’s family.
“This has brought is closer,” she said. “We were close anyway. But this is a life-changing experience.”
