Day 5 – INDEPENDENCE
Leaving Marshalltown, we log 86.2 miles and 2,487 feet of climb on our way to Independence, the 5th overnight town of RAGBRAI LIII.
“Independence is a town built on hard work, hospitality, and heart. Being chosen to host reflects the spirit of our residents who show up for one another every day. From our city staff, volunteers, and civic groups to our local businesses, churches, and neighborhoods, this is truly a community effort.
To the riders, support teams, volunteers, and other guests who will roll into Independence: Welcome! You’ll find a town that knows how to open its doors, lend a hand, and celebrate together. We’re known for our beautiful riverfront, historic downtown, and the kind of Mid-West friendliness that turns visitors into friends. For one unforgettable night, we look forward to sharing it all with you.“

Support drivers have two route options to reach the next town:
- Direct Route (No Meeting Town): This route avoids the meeting town and the bike route, offering the fastest way to the next overnight town.
- Meeting Town Route: This route takes you into the meeting town’s staging area, where you can safely connect with your team, friends, or family.
