A had a tick over 500 with the loop and a real wheel dip. I always say I wish the last day was shorter (a few years back it was) but I still seem to always make it in with plenty of time. People that want to ride are gonna ride.
I’ve done this 11 times now. I went through your stage after about 3. I now share some of the wisest words I’ve read, RAGBRAI don’t care and all that means is go with the flow. It may be that RAGBRAI is not for you. You’ve been given sound advice about riding. Noisy camps are luck of the draw.
You dont say if you’ll be camping with electricity avsilable. I never had much luck with solar panel set ups. You might want your phone in airplane or even off while riding. Cell service is a crap shoot and you wouldnt be talking on it while riding anyway….right???
It will rain….probably. No on garbage bags. Vented jacket should do it. You’ll see some in full gear. Light rain keep going, watch out for road markers or manhole covers in town, they can be like glass. Ive riden it out in heavt rain and hail. Have a plan. Lightning dontscrew around, find shelter, not always easy in corn country.
I have a Kinetic Rock and Roll smart. I’ve used dumb trainers on Zwift, it’s no big deal. On the smart trainer you get the work load changes. With the Rock and Roll I can move the bike below me. If you use Zwift don’t forget to check out the workouts.
2016 rode my Madone on tubeless 25c tires. People looked at me like I was nuts. Keep your wits about you, pick your lines in advance, try not to tense up let the bike find its way. Glad I did it but will not feel the need this year (doesn’t mean I won’t). The pounding was what got me.
